School of Improv
Teachers: Kurt Basa
Ad-Libs has been offering improv training since 1986. We offer a fun and exciting training program that works!
At the end of each workshop, students will perform a free public show on the Ad-Libs main stage, showcasing their strengthened performance and public speaking skills. These shows are free and open to friends, family, and the general public.
Students can also - and are encouraged to - attend any Ad-Libs performance for free while enrolled in the workshops.

Spring 2012
Level I - Ad-Libs Intro To Improv Workshop (6-week course)
Begins: PLEASE CALL
Time: 7:30 - 10 pm
Showcase: TBA
Tuition: $225
This six-week course teaches the foundation for good improvisation through games and exercises. It is an excellent way to build confidence and to learn to trust your first instincts. While this class offers valuable performance and presentation coaching from Ad-Libs’ staff of experienced actors, directors, comedians and public speakers, you don’t need any experience whatsoever. All you need is a fun-loving attitude, a desire to meet new and interesting people and an eagerness to cut loose and play!
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
I don’t think I want to be a comedian. Can I still take this class?
Of course! You’ll find that the tools and skills you learn in the Ad-Libs School of Improv are relevant for virtually every walk of life. If you want to be more social at parties, if you’d like to have better command of audiences during business presentations, if you want to feel more comfortable speaking in public, this is the course for you! However, we make no guarantees that people who come in without performance aspirations will leave without the comedy “itch.”
Is there an age limit?
Students must be at least 18 years old to attend School of Improv courses. As time and demand allows, we offer the Ad-Libs Improv Academy for younger students.
What if I have to miss a class?
We recognize that the world keeps turning, even when you’re in the workshops. As a result, it may be necessary for a student to miss a class. We request that any student who will be unable to attend a class notify the instructor as quickly as possible so that we aren’t calling local hospitals and prisons to make sure you’re okay. If you know in advance that you will miss more than two classes, it is recommended that you refrain from registering for the workshop until your schedule allows. Students who have more than two absences will be excused from the remainder of the course and asked to sign up for a later session.
How do I pay for classes?
Tuition must be paid at the time of registration in order to guarantee your spot. You may pay your tuition online at www.ad-libs.com.
I registered for a class; what happens if I have to cancel?
If you do need to cancel your registration, please let us know in writing. Send an email to no later than 24 hours prior to the start of the first class so we can adjust accordingly. Tuitions for timely cancellation requests will be refunded minus a $20 processing fee. We reserve the right to refuse a refund of tuition for untimely cancellations.
What should I wear? What should I bring?
Improvisation can be (and often is) physical. We therefore recommend that every student dress comfortably, but safely. You know, something in which you’d be okay rolling around on the floor. Closed-toed shoes (e.g., sneakers), jeans or sweats, etc. Wear shorts or skirts at your own risk. Also, please bring a notebook and a pen or pencil to class.
Can I bring food or drinks to class?
We encourage students to get their grub on prior to or after class. You are welcome to bring a bottled beverage (e.g.,water, soda, sports drink) to keep you hydrated. Please, no gum during the class.
